Hard changes when cold

My 1994 C180 euro version has hard changes when starting out, presumably the tranny is running cold. When I've done about about 4 or 5km, its changing normally. Have been told this is normal for this model, only has 4 speed auto and the ratios are further apart. Runs at 3000rpm at 100kph or slightly less say 2800 when my Toyota is doing only 2000 to 2200 at same 100kph speed because of the overdrive or 5th gear which is under 1:1 ratio. Any comments?
