Help for painting under the hood...

I need some help with underhood painting. My car is a 1974 450SL and it is the light silver/grey of the time period. The car is in awesome condition except under the hood. I tried to clean off all the baked on "gunk" that covered the sides of the motor area (basicly everything under the hood that should be the same color paint as the car...along the sides and the front of the motor bay) It looked bad. I tried painting it by hand with a sponge brush with Eastwood paint and it looks like that is what I did. =(

My question is: Does anybody have any suggestions, besides removing the engine to do this? The high temp engine paint is too "shiney" looking. I am thinking of trying to find a silver/grey spray paint that is close to the color or seeing how much it would cost to have a pro do it. I like to do things myself, and I am very patient, so....

Any suggests would be great!
