Exclamation Traction problem in snow 300E

I'm new to Mercedes Benz Ownership. I have a 91 MB 300E. We recently had a snow storm. I was slipping and sliding all over the place. Any insight to eliminate the slipping and getting more traction.

Thanks

Say talons40, I think most people search out all new posts when they visit the forum, so double-posting your query may not be necessary.

GOOD snow tires will definately do the trick. My wifes' 1990 300E was the best car we ever owned for going in the snow.

These cars are terrible in the snow. Embarrassing. I nearly clogged up a steep motorway slip road last year with my C240. The only solution is snow tyres. They make the world of difference, and they are very good these days.

its sad to think that where these cars originate from (Germany) that they are terrible in snow and then if you drive an american front wheel drive, slipping and sliding is no object!

In Germany everybody puts snow tyres on in October/November time. It's huge business there. In Switzerland it's the law! The cars work brilliantly with winter tyres.

Any brand of snow tires that you guys reccomend? I got mine to the top of Deer Valley last week and was sliding all over the place. I actually got stuck and the snow wasn't even that bad. I almost got hit by people passing me three times. I want to believe that snow tires would help with rear wheel drive but it's tough to believe after last week. Getting them would be a cheaper alternative than buying a 1k subaru for the winter. Any suggestions on tires? Thanks!

I am on my third winter with a set of Michelin Pilot Alpines. It snowed here yesterday and the roads were crappy. I drove through the crappy roads like I was on dry pavement. These tires also are excellent on ice as well as snow.

Before I had snow tires, the car had a set of Michelin Pilot XGT V4's (The orginal owner was from southern California). I couldn't get even get from my snow/ice covered driveway into my garage. I am amazed on what a difference snow tires can make.

My 1991 300E did very well on a set of michelin artic alpin's. I usually had more traction than most front wheel drive cars. And when braking the car performed flawlessly which is when it does not matter if you have FWD, AWD, 4WD or RWD.

Good luck

You can't go wrong with a set of four Nokian snow tires, (www.nokiantyres.com). They were particularly recommended to me by my MB dealer two years ago. After much contemplation I bought their "all season snow tire", the NRW, which I have never regretted. They are nothing short of fantastic on my 300TE 4matic wagon. The dry and wet handling is very good and in the snow they are terrific. Nokian has since discontiued that model tire, but has replaced it with an "improved" tire called the WR. It too is designated an all season tire, but it is the only all season tire that has the snowflake designation meaning it meets the USA's snow tire standard. I had blizzaks before that and these wear and handle better and are as good if not better in the snow. I liked the Nokian's so much, I bought four Nokian Hakkepellita Q's for my wife's Subaru and she said the car goes & stops in the snow like a sno-cat. But whatever you get, make sure you get four tires.

my problem with snow tires is that where i live (rochester,ny) we used to get lots of snow but for the past 5 years or so we'll get a big dump of snow one day and for the rest of the week the pavement is dry as a bone and all my driving is mostly highway

last year i had a nice set of perelli (sp?) snow tires by the time spring came, they were spent :-(

so this year i've just kept all season and had no problems, if it snows i just take it easy
