Fixing torn MB-Tex?

My seats in the 83 look like brand new, but feel cardboardish. I ordered some Leatherique and am waiting for it to come in, I'm hoping that will rid of the hardness. However, there is a section 4-6" long right by a seam that tore, is there any way to repair this? If I sew it back together will it just come apart again?
