Just ordered new rims...
I have just ordered new rims for the '94 E320 wagon as sort of a graduation present - last payment went out the door this week. I also wanted the new set to use only in the summer. The question is: Is brake dust cleaning all a matter of desire to get out there and start cleaning or are there some tricks to protect the rims longer. Recently I've found juast wiping them down with a wet paper towel works OK. I want to protect these new rims.

A good polymer sealant like Meguiars #20 does a great job protecting the finish. Tire Rack also sells Wheel Wax, never tried it but have heard good things about it.
Best way to wipe down the wheel after a drive is to first let it cool and then use a Quick Detailer. Mist the wheels with the detailing spray and then wipe with a large cotton towel. Keep this towel dedicated for just the wheels and wash at least once a week.

Of all the wheel cleaners I've seen none are 'foam like', just liquid, to stick to the wheel and clean better. I plan on putting the blue SL wheel caps on them. They really look nice on the wife's E300TD.

So where are the pics?
BTW don't bother using a wheel cleaner unless the car has been through rain. The quick detailer used on the rest of your paint is more than sufficient for cleaning the wheels.

Ken's 1995 E320 SE
I say keep it dry unless they have been wet already. Well if it has been a while since you wiped them clean, I guess you may need to properly wash them. Then again, if it ahs been a while since you wiped the wheels, then I suppose you should wash the entire car. I have found that normal washing does the job. Remember that post asking "how long do you wait before you wipe the brake dust from your wheels"?
Here is my car a couple of days after a quick clean-up http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52177&perpage=10&pagenumber=1

You were lucky to have an E55 and an E500
Your E500 and E55 look nice and I bet they really go too. Was the E55 faster than the E500 and what about the handling comparison? Which car did you prefer? You sold the E55, so I guess you liked the E500 most. It must have been great to walk out in the morning and have your choice of either car. I have to say that I never loved the W210s, but the E55 is such a performer that it would be hard to resist.
