My 83 300D is rather dull looking. Not oxidized(as I know the term), just. Dull. Probibly because it's likely not been waxed in the last fifteen years, and not washed in the last three or four.
It's an Oklahoma car, so no rust or such, just dull. For the record, I just bought it a few months ago, and I wash it every week or two. I hate dirt on a nice looking car. I set out the other afternoon with some turtlewax polishing compound and some regular turtlewax. I've had good luck with this combo on old domestic muscle cars in the past with similierly dull finishes, and I don't see that it needs something as harsh as rubbing compound. I went over it with the polishing compound in the usual manner, then waxed it. Hood and trunk lid. Trouble is, it's shiny and all that, but if you catch the light, especialy a street light at night, on it, the paint now looks, mottled, is the only word I can think of for it. It's uneven looking in the depth of color somehow. This was not at all the case before hand, and I don't believe I polished through the paint significantly by hand. Any clue? Some better product, my technique bad? I really hate waxing to be honest, but the car's so nice looking it deserves it. Side question, wax on the black trim, especialy the textured trim at the lower rear of the trunk lid, any easy way to get this off short of some of that trim blackening stuff? Thanks a bunch for any input.
