Seat control switch
One of my great friends broke one of the tabs that control the seat bottom movement. I foolishly didn't have the cover on there and he broke the front tab the controls the front of the seats up and down movement. I have to get into the door soon for window issues so I figure ill take care of this to. What are my options for fixing this? thanks

A possible fix?
I have a 81 300SD w126 and when I found that one of the black pin sort of things broke that goes out into the switch, I drilled a hole inside the round pin that remained (as it was, not long enough to reach out into the handle) and pushed a pop used pop rivit stud (like a small aluminimum rod) in the press tight hole. It was sorta tricky but it sure works good (it just extended the length of the switch pin by doing this). If you have a similar model car I could take a picture for you (I will have it apart in a couple days to replace my door locks.)
Let me know if it works for ya... thanks! |

I might have to try that. Did the drilling damage anything though?

How to drill..
Well I used an appropriate sized drill bit of course, so that it didn't make the plastic too thin and thus breakable..
don't remmeber the size...just compare it to a pop rivet shank if you have one laying around.,. Anyway, you have to drill carefully and not too deep...I drilled probably about 1/4-1/2 inch in...just enough so that the pop rivet piece would stay set in the plastic.. Let me know if you decide to do this and want me to post a picture.. The key here is just take it really slow and careful becuase that switch is pretty flimsy. I was suprised it worked so well for me actually |
