Carra,

An actelyene torch with a cutting attachment comes in handy. If fact there are jobs I couldn't do with out it.

Get some brazing rods too.

Socket set from 6mm to 27mm, a deep 27mm socket, associated ratchets, and extension bars.

A set of combination wrenches from 5mm to 27mm.

A set of allen wrenches from 4mm to 10mm. Preferable ones that have sockets on them to use with a ratchet.

At least 4 Vise Grip Pliers. And I mean the brand "Vise Grip". I've tried other brands and none are much good.

Put a grease pit or lift in your garage and you won't need all those jacks and jack stands.

have all that, plus a MIG welder I never use, and stuff I can't remember anymore.
A car lift is on my list of "gotta have someday"

It's not necessarily a typical "mechanic's" tool, but I've found one of these mini ratchet sets to be pretty handy for lots of stuff. The design of the ratcheting mechanism makes it very compact - for scale, that ratchet handle is 4-5/8" long, and the head is only 0.4" wide; a 3-3/4" handle is available. The ratcheting mechanism has a 12-degree arc.

It comes with both metric and fractional inch hex bits, a really good range of phillips and slotted bit sizes (all the better to have a bit the fits the fastener), and even a 1/4" square drive bit to allow use of standard 1/4" drive sockets. Other bits (Torx-like, for example) are available, and bits can be replaced individually as necessary.

Gets to fasteners in insanely tight spots...

The ultimate tool - a big ass garage!

It's not quite finished but my new house (first house actually) comes with the ultimate tool - a big ass garage!

Here is a pic (yes, it is a five car garage). It is insulated on all walls and even special garage doors that are insulated. The window in the back of the garage will hold a sears 27,000 BTU window airconditioner. There will be a mop sink in the other corner and 7 sets of ceiling lights. There is also 220 wired for a lift (not right away - I'm now broke), but I have 12' ceilings!!!!!

10' high doors

Here are the custom doors with the high-lift track. With the doors up, you still have 10'6" of clearance (more lifts!). Pictured in front of the door is my 84 300SD.

Holy Geez!!

Thats one big a___ garage. The high lift doors are what make me really envious. Do you have to be really super tall to open them, or else do you jump up with them as they go up, and then release them and hop down?

Simple, press the button on the garage door opener!

1/2 hp motor

They have garage door openers - 1/2 horse.

I talked to the install guy (overhead doors) and told him what I was wanting to do with the high lift track. Doesn't hug the ceiling as close as I would like, but I have enough clearance to stack cars. Learned a lot about garage doors - like they pull back, and don't pull your door "up" (think about it). Also he made the recommendation on the door itself (insulated on the inside and sealed on both sides vs. just a styrene foam panel that could fall out.

Best part is that if I had a car on a trailer I could drive the whole thing inside if I needed.

Trust me - I'm geeked and the neighbors think I'm opening a Jiffy Lube!
