Wheel driven spreaders must be nice because I've had much interest in it although not for sale. I never knew these spreaders were so desireable until this one went out for display!

I think the idea of a bunch of us getting together sounds great! That would be fun to see everyones cars and swap war stories...

Cheers,

Bill

I stumbled onto the site via web searches.

I am a relatively new diesel owner (been looking for a while). I stumbled upon an '84 300D at a "tote your note" car lot. I speculate that most of his customer demographic weren't interested in this car and he almost couldn't give it away. I looked at it when he had $2900 on the windshield and ended up buying it from him 3 weeks later for $1200.

It has a little rust in a couple of spots (not unusual I see) and the second owner didn't take care of it and I believe he used it for a construction work car (there were roofing nails, nail pouches, and such all in the car).

I originally bought it with the intent to experiment with biodiesel, but after I drove it home, I became somewhat enamored with it. With a little TLC, very thorough cleaning, some new tires, alignment, new Walmart CD/MP3 stereo and speakers and "C" service, it has now become my daily driver for a 72 mile roundtrip commute.

This site has been invaluable in assisting me in making it a better car. I have been very pleasantly surprised at both the promptness and eagerness to assist me with my challenges.

For my small part, I endeavor to clearly detail the situation and to report back the results so that it may be of help to others. It is not much compared to the folks who are responding with the answers, but it is the best I can do for now.

Thanks to all and to the sponsors of the site.

Patrick

Even with my 87 300D

everytime I see a 240D on the highway, I wish I had mine back..that car was so slow and not really a 2000's car, but it was "me", and it was simple, uncomplicated and reliable.....

"Tools of mass destruction"

One thing I found out from this Forum is I'm not the only one, when PO'd and tired and angry, has just reached into my Tool chest for a "Tool of Mass Destruction and just totally turned something small into a nightmare...the other day I was pulling a pin for a Timing rail and when I was done 7 hours later, I had a Civil Court Date for an accident I had absolutely no part in and honestly did nothing, said something short tempered to a Police Officer, steel shavings in my engine pan--It was something out of a Hollywood Movie-------------

You're right

the 240D was like me too, an anachronism, out-of-date, yet still (I hope) well mannered and good natured, just very stubborn and tunnel visioned...and I

I live about ten minutes from MB Autowerks. I had been reading the shop forum for about a year when, with the help of Bill (webmaster) and Donnie (Benzmac), I bought an almost perfect 123 from one of their customers. This one was totaled a year ago and I bought another 123 through autotrader that needed a lot of work. Through this Shop Forum, I learned how to DIY such that now, everything on the car works except the cigar lighter. I won't list all the things I fixed, but believe me it was all the usuals, then some. Engatwork got the a/c working and an MB indy aligned the front end. Otherwise, I used shared knowledge from you guys to do it myself. I would like to thank each and every person that contributes to this forum. There is always someone that can use what you have learned. Keep on postin'.

I am realivly new to MB but not to a wrench. I rely on this site for nearly everything I haven't done yet on the car yet. Saved a lot of money already just by taking advice from people on this site.

Thumbs up

I have relied on it for quite a while now. A good bunch om members on average. As long as you stay away from the rabid bunch of hyienas that frequent the open forum.

Get great advice here and even when I am not looking for specifics many of the threads make for great reading.

I love my 300SDL, I'd like to keep it running as long as I can drive (I'm 35) or as long as they'll allow diesels on the road. Without this site I don't know if that would be possible - but I have a fighting chance with this forum.

You are all a valuable resource for keeping the car on the road. Here's to many, many more years!

I was driving down the local highway here recently coming home from school and saw the rear end of a w123 up ahead (with turbo diesel badge). I thought I saw extra brake light modifications and a 3rd brake light install. I was about to feel very forutunate as I thought I found another forum member however it turns out the extra lights and 3rd were on a different car and I was just confused.

Yes...yes...I am obsessed...
This forum is exactly what I was looking for when I was shopping for and now owning my mercedes

I "discovered" this forum when I was researching MB's online.

Ever since my Grandfather told me many years ago that "an MB will last you a lifetime", I have always wanted one.

Being a diesel fan already (over at www.tdiclub.com), I naturally gravitated towards the MB diesels.

Further research on this forum led me to begin my "collection" with a nice 240D that I now own.

Since then, I have relied on Forum Members to answer questions, and as my knowledge grows, I am able in turn to help others who face the same challanges that I did.

Talking Yes! Always!

For 2 and 1/2 years or so, BEFORE ever joining and posting, I constantly searched and read all of the information that I could gather.
Whenever I encounter another oilburner, I will even "pull them over"......sometimes, much to their chagrin...Ha Ha! I become some sort of crazed "ambassador" of Mercedesshop.com
Perhaps this ammounts to "some sort of sickness......albeit not a BAD one.
Best wishes always,
Spo out
