Oil filter

Sorry to drag up an old topic, but..

I was in the process of doing an oil change on my trusty 240 when I discovered that I was out of filters. I usually buy several from Fastlane to have on hand, but I messed up and was out. Well, after I ordered some more from Fastlane, I was a little impatient and was weighing whether I should take my chances with the Indian filter from the local chain stores. Well, after much research, I cruised on down to Autozone and was pleasently surprised to find that the STP filter on the shelf was a German made filter that looked identical to the Hengst. It still may be crap or seconds, but I am convinced that it is a Hengst. It was $8.99.

I'm still going to buy filters from Fastlane, but it is nice to know that there is a local alternative when in a jam. I just hope that it is not a counterfeit!

If you got the time and $ go buy a second one w/german lable and slice her open and see if there is a cotton rats nest in there.

I was thinking the same thing, but I got the last one on the shelf. They had the Frams there that were made in Turkey, so I didn't bother. I'll cut this one open here in another 3000 miles and report what I find.

I think you guys should check out this thread. It's 5 pages long now, but should be required reading.

What did they put in my oil filter?
