On every 83 240 D or 300D I see, I notice that the door frame stripping (acts as weather seal?), which is 1/8" black rubber covered by fabric, has torn fabric, exposing the rubber. I'm trying to make my car look like brand new, and I'm wondering if the stripping can be replaced with new stripping. I realize this is vain question, but I rebuilt this car from junk and I m very proud of it.

I've noticed this phenomenon even in the cherriest of 123's. Perhaps an auto upholsterer could help.

If you really must have new looking weather stripping, check out some of the aftermarket suppliers like IMPCO:
http://www.************************
or 1-800-243-1220 to order a cataloge

They have the OE weather stripping for $61-88 for front and $55-58 for rear. You will also need assorted numbers of new seal clips - about $.30 each

I ordered one from IMPCO for my 300D, but the original was basically non-existent and had to be replaced.

My 240D has this same problem, but they still function fine with some of the 'cloth' missing.... sure look better with it though

Good Luck,

I've been able to buy this from M-B. Have you tried the Parts Shop here?

I assume you're talking about the rubber/fabric seal that fits into the body and when the window is rolled-up, the top of the window is touching this. Is that right?

I did just what TXBill sugests. I removed the plastic trim around the window, that was by choice since I changed the interior of the car to a different colour. Then I removed the cloth from the rubber that is on the chasis, that was not by choice. The rubber looks o.k. without the cloth. Not very preatty, but o.k.
