Talking Yes this is an OIL question

Been reading a lot of oil theads and I just have some basic questions, not oil manufacture questions.

What is dyno oil? I am changing over to synthetic, no leaks, and I am unsure of what weight to use. It seems that everyone is on some agreement between Delvac 1 or Amsoil but I live in sunny south Florida and it is pretty much HOT! No real winter, so what would you recomned for the weight? 1980 300TD.

While we're on the issue of oil, do you replace the oil pan gasket dry or with some form a gasket stuff?

Todd

Dino is non-synthitic oil, If you want to go synthetic Mobil 1 15w-50 or Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 are fine. Do a search and you will learn more than you ever wanted to.

I think it is typical for SMART old mechanics ( this is called 'poisoning the well') clean all the gasket surfaces.. and use super trim adhesive from 3M to glue the gasket to THE ITEM WHICH IS ABLE TO BE REMOVED ...also called ' yellow death'...
This means to the valve cover... to the oil PAN... etc... not to the block where it will be hard to clean it off... glue to the item you can take to the work bench or the solvent vat and let soak....
This does not apply to head gaskets....
On gaskets which are needing to HOLD liquid oil (VW and SUBE valve cover gaskets).... I like Cork... but what I do is prep the cork by putting as thin a layer of red high TEMP RTV on it ( all surfaces) the day before.... this has worked well for me for 30 years.... ( read " never leaked" ).
Dyno oil is a funny name for oil made by composting dynosaurs...
Actually the plant material they ate... or did not eat.... like bog which was pressed into oil...
As compared to synthetic... made by man....
Delo 400 40 wt for hot climate old car...

Yup, been searching for days, only came out for food and water. PLENTY of info on manufactruers, so I should go with lower weights or higher? And have you ever changed your oil pan gasket?

The reason I say that is because I asked almost the same question back in June, the basic response I got was that 5w-40 Delvac is fine in any temp if it's to hot for that oil your in trouble! I have never done an oil pan gasket, yet.

See people this is what happens when your in archives to long. You get all confused and start asking yourself is dyno the same as dino or are the both different in a same kind of way. We tell people to search without regards to the damage it could do to their health. Not to mention social life I got lost in the archives once an couldn't find my way out for a week! I had to burn old threads to keep warm at night.

"Dino is non-synthitic oil"
Isn't this the long way around ? Oil is millions of years old...
Dino is OIL.....
Synthetic is man made lubricant.

I tend not to use any adhesives on any gaskets that I don't have a problem getting into place and keeping there until bolted up. When I have a gasket that needs to be held in place (not enough hands ), I use 3M Super Weather Strip Adhesive (typically called Gorilla Snot).
