So what exactly is mineral oil???

I've leaned from this site that non-mineral oil in the SLS in my 83 300TD will ruin the seals. I got to wondering what exactly is mineral oil? A web search didn't turn up much more than this:

1. Any of various light hydrocarbon oils, especially a distillate of petroleum.
2. A refined distillate of petroleum, used as a laxative.

Since it seems like mineral oil is a petrolium distallate, would using a hydraulic oil (also a petrolium distallate?) adversely affect the seals?

Thanks,

Chuck

Are you talking about lubricating oil or fuel oil?

It is used as hydraulic oil in the Self-Leveling Suspension system. I've read here that using petrolium based oils (power steering fluid?) would eat the seals in the SLS system.
