When I bought SDL, I could swear that it had a distinct smell to it. But, I could not place it. It was not cigarettes. It was not leather. It was not mold. Finally, I have given up trying to identify it and can best describe it as "old man scent". Sort of a mixture of very light cologne and that of a person, LOL. Well, it slowly dissipates every day. It's been six months and I can still sense it.

I don't know what mine smells like, I'm in it to much. It seems to smell like a clean car.

What did she smell like Brian?

One of my cars had a distinct odor about it: My 2 yr old nephew upchucked all over the backseat.

Yummy, yummy.

I did not notice any "peculiar" smells to it, Hattie. Nothing that stays in my mind anyway.

Did you notice the "old man scent" on mine, LOL?

The owner of a machine shop that I deal with has a beautiful Audi A4. Beautiful, that is, until you get into it. Then the wonderful upchuck smell invades your nostrils and you cannot wait to get out of it.

I do say that getting rid of such an odor is damn near impossible.

Is it a lease car? Wouldn't that be fun trying to explian to a dealer.

Yeah your car did have a slight "old man scent" to it. Just clean everything in the interior and drive with your windows down for awhile. Mine was very stuffy inside until I cleaned it out, also new floor matts helped mine, the old ones were crusty and just ewww!

No, he bought it. He paid something like 30K for it and he expects to sell it for 19K after 3.50 years of use, just before the warranty expires. He figures that it costs him only about 3K per year to drive it. I don't believe that it can have a resale value that high, but we'll see. The upchuck smell ought to knock off about 3-4K, LOL.

All of my 300DT's, from the past and present have had a very similar smell, an odor thats distinctive from any other make of car. Just about every w123 ive been in smells like the ones Ive owned.

My guess is that its from the materials that make up the carpets and MB-Tex. I would describe it as a sweet cologne meets vynil. Its especially prominent when the car has been sitting in the sun.

A friend of mine always has said (in reference to all of the MB's that shes been in of mine) that it smells like sugar cookies. My moms w202 C280 has the same smell, mixed with leather.

Theres nothing more comforting than the smell of my MB in the winter with the heat turned on! ok, maybe im going crazy....

I guess its the whole old car smell nostalgia thing.... great thread topic!!!

Come to think of it the diesel fumes seem to drown out all the other smells!

Thank God I spread a couple blankets across the benchseat before putting the baby carseat in place. Puke was contained within those blankets.

I get a diesely smell in mine sometimes, especially when I use the A/C. It does not smell much though.

stink

My 1985 300SD smelled of old burlap feed bags.
Aired out the car, searched carefully and found two old burlap feed bags in the spare tire well.
I added an orange scent air freshener it the center mirror.
Now the car has a pleasant odor.
