Thumbs up MB Diesel Stable complete? move on to SL's?

Ok, I've got enough diesels so says the wife and pocketbook. These MB's represent some good years and models (touch wood)

The 91 350sdl is the blue boat, the 84 300d Helga the warrior, and the wonderful 240d 4 spd manual Green Hornet that my wife loves to drive.

My son won't trade up from his 98 Jetta TDI to MB, but remember youth is wasted on the young.

Soooooo it's time to search for the elusive 450sd. No, I know there is no diesel sl, so I am in the market for one propelled by UGH,gas.
question is, should I go for a 71 450sl, (that back in 1971 I could have bought new for $6500, but chose instead a 71 Vette 350 V8, 350P. I snared my wife of 30+ years by letting her drive the Vette, but when she found out that I could have purchased a 71 MB sports car she sighed, and said her german ancestors are rolling in their graves as one of her relatives back in the homeland was a MB engineer.) or a later model??

Boy I know this is a real leap to cats, vacuum, spark plugs, distributors, air pumps, etc.

So, If you had your druthers, which two seater (none after 1982)
would you be looking for??

Sounds to me like you are living in the same hell as I am. Not a week goes by that we see an SL whizzing down the road and SWMBO asks: "is that a diesel?"

I'm currently getting an earful for not 'acting quicker' on the "Big Red One"...a W126 opportunity missed this week in Ft Worth.

Jeez.

It's kinda funny that you posted this, I've been toying around with the idea of a 300SLD, in other words transplanting a turbo diesel into a 107 SL like my 450 that I just sold. Anyway if you have any specific questions on the 450SL (the best of the 107 bunch) you can pm me and I'm happy to share the knowledge that I've gained from it.
