Thumbs up Introduction

Hi,

I've been browsing this forum for about six months and have found it a very valuable aid. I just now got around to registering because it wont let you search unless you have an account so here I am.

I have a 1982 300sd. My dad picked it up towards the end of 81 in Germany. He took relatively good care of it mechanically and meticulous care of it cosmetically. Anyway he gave it to me when I started college last year (he replaced it with an e320 also picked up in Germany. We went for a month and drove around in it).

Kind of interesting, when I was born, I was driven home in this car and 18 years later I am driving it around!

I have always been mechanically inclined so it wasn't long until I was poking around and taking things apart. So far I have done the following:

-fuel filters
-full transmission service
-oil changes (of course)
-engine suspension + trans. mount
-oil pan (doing it again now)
-lower ball joint
-did the bearings when I did the ball joint (so far hasn't broken)
-just did the oil cooler lines
-diff oil change
-rack damper
and probably a few other things I forgot about

I had no previous experience working on cars before this so being able to consult this message board helped me get an overview of the projects and what to expect when doing them. Definitely has helped me build confidence so thanks everyone for all the good info.

Here is a picture of me when I was about two or three. Already had good taste in cars. I have some recent pictures of it somewhere. When I find them I will post them.

This is always good to see.

If you can, fix/replace it before it breaks!!!

Trust Me!

Welcome......

I love your little red convertable Benz! Is it electric or pedal power?

I hope you still have that to pass on to your future kis, and hopefully the big one too!

Smile Welcome

Enjoy the forum.
This forum is like no other that I have found.
Don't hesitate to ask any question.
The only bad question; is the one you did not ask.
Have a great day.

Yes, singular. The boot disintegrated on the right ball joint and started making creaking noises. I know you can just repack with grease and put on a new boot but I decided to just replace the whole thing because that only involved one extra step--removing and installing the old and new ball joint.

It is electric. It broke a while ago though. We sold it a a garage sale a few years ago. So far, the only star I have had broken off any of my mercedes' is on the plastic one
