My vehicle is running to warm. I have replaced water pump, hoses, thermostat, fan, fan clutch and recored the radiator.
For a couple weeks, it ran as cool as can be - but then started to run warm. At idle in my driveway it can go up to 200 degrees (F). The thermostat and water pump were replaced after the problem reappeared. Could it be the recore? The shop will charge me money if they open the radiator up and find no problem. Please help... |

Unfortunately, a common problem is substandard products in this area. All cores aren't the same. The number of rows of tubes, the number of tubes per inch and the fins per inch change the cooling capacity tremendously.
If you can get those measurements I can compare the numbers to a factory radiator. There is equiptment out there that measures flow rate through the radiator but there are no standards. Larger cores than standard can be built for special situations also. My partners had a special core built for his 1970 280SL so that it would stay cool in Florida summers with A/C. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |

A radiator cap that doesn't seal and won't hold pressure has been known to contribute to elevated operating temperatures. Apparently something happened a while after the work. Could it be this?
Good luck in resolving your problem. ------------------ Ted 1979 240D 160,000 miles |

The radiator cap was changed 8 months ago. But you never know - it might be a good test.
The problem that I have is that the car ran very cool for 2 to 3 weeks and then warmed up after the new radiator was installed. The weather was 100 degrees and I was in stop and go traffic with the AC on. The car only went up to 200 degrees. I stress tested the work quite intensively and it passed. Now, I am at a loss for where the problem could be. |

My last post could be confusing. The car ran real cool after the new radiator was installed (w/ other parts). Three weeks after running on the new radiator it started to warm up.

Have you checked the water to antifreeze ratio? Maybe thats off? You might have too much of one or the other in it. If I remember correctly from reading another post a while back, too much antifreeze can cause the car to run hotter. You could do a search on antifreeze and see what you come up with.
