'84 300D Tranny

My tranny on my 1984 300D w/ a Turbo suddenly stopped working. There was a fluid leak and a loose vacuum line which i fixed and reattached respectively and it still does not work.

I saw a 1982 300D w/ a turbo in a junk yard and the transmissions looked the same. I am thinking of replacing that one with mine.

Q's
Are the two compatible?

The one in the junkyard has no engine so i can't check to see if the tranny is working. When i drained out the fluid it was free of any metalic shavings. Is there a way to see if the tranny works?

How much does the tranny weigh approximately? Supposedly it should not be more than ~100 lbs.

Thanks,

Almadroog

Nope, much more than 100 lbs.; you don't want it sitting on your head or hand..I'd say, 250# or so.

You got that right. These slushboxes are heavier than any other auto or manual I've bench-pressed.
