'93 300 Td 2.5
Hi all
I am about to but a '93 300 2.5TD w/ 167 k miles, over the internet. It sounds like the car is in great shape it has been inspected by an independant MB shop. They have found a squeaky A/c motor and a slighly worn Right motor mount. The owner says he will have these fixed for me. CAr has great records and new tires, price $9000. It sound s like a great reliable car for my wife. The car is in Charlotte N. Carolina. Is there anything else I should be looking for that this model an dyear have wrong with them or that will be breaking down in the near future. Also we will be having the car shipped if anyone has any good or bad experiances with that. Thanks for your time. Gary T. |

I don't know how prevelant it is, but I am just finishing up rebuilding a 91 2.5T that the oil pump chain failed on @ about 185K mi. Obviously when the chain failed it seized up quite a few things.....
Good Luck! -M-

I picked up a 92 300D in January from TX and had it shipped to NC, I love the car, I have had only minor issues, like the cruise control, and the belt tensionor shock. I Got 12,000 out of my last new one. It came with factory R134a in the AC system a plus. Shipping of the car went well, except for the snow on the roads and the road grime. Your price seams a little high, mine had 77,000 mile and I gave 9,000 and 550 to have it shipped. Good luck mine just turned 90k

2.5 Turbo
I have had mine for about two months, ($6700) and I love it..... very nice riding car, no problems yet. They are bulletproof engines, just the usual things that goes out on a MB, like AC, odometer, etc.. gets good mileage around 33MPG, get the manuals from www.books4cars.com

oil pump drive chain
I don't know if it's the size of the chain (single roller bearing) or some design
problem with the sprockets. But @ that mileage [it's a bear to check on a 124 ,you have to release both engine mounts and jack up the engine;drop the pan and inspect] it is worth the trouble to inspect / replace! IF you have the "Moola" go ahead and replace the Timing Chain + drive on into the 300k range. Last edited by compress ignite; 08-16-2004 at 11:07 PM. Reason: additional info |
