How far is it? Do you have a hitch?
I've been contemplating the use of one of those two-wheeled dollies for parts car retrievals...should work OK for low speed, relatively short distance stuff. Or, what I'd really like to have is a Jerr-Dan slide on retriever like this: |
Ahhh, I can see it now:
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride with a Jerr-Dan lift on the back :D :D |
Why Randy, it is just a mere 300 miles away .
Two options I'm looking at - an off-duty rollback truck, about $150 in fuel plus the drivers time or the U-Haul car transporter for ~$60/day pulled by a borrowed truck. My biggest hurdle at the moment is fitting this trip into my work/travel schedule - I have virtually no free time from now until I bug out for Mississippi on Saturday morning. I will just have to let it sit until my return. |
A worthy cause.

Depending on the cost for the driver, the slide-on might be the best way to go. Quote:
...but seriously, the local AutoTrader rag, has a mid 90's F350 diesel Ford with a fully operational Jerr-Dan for $8500. I can see myself now, cruising across the good 'ol U S of A, runnin my Jerr-Dan on waste cookin' grease and rescuing lost and forlorn diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz™ from the hungry maw of the car crusher....collecting rusted-out, low mileage NJ, NY and PA cars with good drive trains and mating them with CA, AZ and Tejas Benzos bodies with tired but rebuildable engines.:) |
