Request for '83 300D Wiring Info

Can you guys help a gasser?

I am helping the son of a friend who has a 1983 US 300D that he needs for daily transportation. It will not start with the key, but will start if the 12V leads on the connector on right fenderwell are jumped. This car has the large glow plug timer relay on the left fenderwell that it my prime suspect in the starting problem.

There is a 5 pin connector to the relay. I know that Pin 5 (violet wire) goes to the connector on the right fenderwell and then to the starter.

What are the connections and wire colors to the other four pins?

TIA.

Ignore glow relay. Power flows to starter via violet wire from neutral safety switch. Goes into switch on violet/white wire from ignition switch. Goes into ignition switch on big red wires. Real simple path. Try taking the connections loose on the right side fender and clean them real good. I have seen bad connections there cause headaches. Just be careful. The big wires go directly to battery and alternator. Ignition switches go bad all the time. Almost all my cars have had one replaced at one time or another. Of course also try moving the shifter while holding the key at "start". Just have both feet firmly on the brake when you do it!!

Thank you for your prompt reply.

That's what I thought as well. But what threw me is that there is continuity between Pin 5 on the relay, and the connection to the starter wire on the right inner fender. The Haynes manual shows an arrangement for an '82 240D where the relay seems to get ground input from the transmission switch in P or N, and 12V from the ignition switch and then power to the starter of Pin 5. But it also shows some stuff that's inconsistent with what's in this car and that's why I ask the question.

I did move the trans lever to no effect.
