1983 240D oil cooler lines, both are on the bottom of my car

Well I was looking at the parts manual and I realized that all the diagrams show the oil cooler lines to be the same on the 616 and 617 engines. My daughters 240D has both connections on the bottom of the cooler. Does anyone else have this setup?
I wonder if it is a special "setup" done by the indy who worked on the car for the previous owners.

Dave

Looks just like my 79 240D. Both oil cooler lines attach to the bottom of the oil cooler.

Look's like my '83 240D, that I'm taking for a 250 mile spin through the Ozarks today.

I'm a little late about chimming in here, but I've got a 82" 240d chassis and a 79" 616 motor and my oil cooler has a top and a bottom port,,, what gives?

My '78 300D had top and bottom, my '83 240D has both bottom. It's a late model mod I suppose.

I think they used a cheaper oil cooler on the late 240Ds. Its just a loop of piping inside a stack of fins. This is unlike a more traditional (an probably more effective)radiator setup on the 617s and early 616

Mine has this as well. Very difficult to identify the appropriate hose part numbers for this.

Does anyone have them by chance in their records?
