240D question?

Why is there a crankshaft position sensor on my 240D? It has no tach? Is this for the cruise control?

Is the wire harness plug for the neutral safety switch on the transmission available from the dealer or other source? On both 240Ds the plug has gone brittle and has broken. Helllllllp!
