Accelerator Pedal Spring????
I recently purchased a 126 300SD to go along with my '83 300D. My wife has taken an interest in the SD (she never liked my "smelly" diesel). But I have a problem. She had polio when she was 6 and she has very little movement and strength in her ankles. The accelerator pedal in the SD is too stiff for her. I tried to lube all the joints with tranny fluid, this helped some but not enough. I looked and looked but couldn't find any spring or springs in the linkage. First of all, is there a spring? And where is it located? Is it possible to weaken it's effect on the pedal? I looked in the archives and couldn't find any pertinent info. Thanks in advance. Lee Derby

if you were looking at the front of the car it would be underneath on the right side. right next to the tranny. i just changed mine out to one that isnt as stiff. much easier to push.

I can't say for certain how your pedal is configured. On my '91 350SD there isn't anything to lubricate (although I tried). There is a pedal that clips into something on the floor--that's all there is, no gears, no lubricating. Acceleration bothered me for a while until I simply replaced it--all of it, maybe $15. Done.
