Helping a friend of a friend with this post.

Thanks

I just cringe when I think of a naturally aspirated 240D at 7,000 feet. The vehicle has barely enough power at sea level. At 7,000 it is losing another 20%, even if it is perfectly fueled.

on this issue.
I hope to go see the car for hands on, after my surgery this week.

I resent that discourteous remark. I am usually the first across the intersection when the light changes and I frequently am passing people on the roads. :p

If you have an altitude compensator, it will be a knurled knob on the top of the IP with a pointer and a set of numbers in ft altittude (or meters). Set for appropriate level.

Or just live with the smoke at altitude.

If you have a vacuum governor, you don't have an altitude compensator.

only by replacing the pump with one having a mechnical governor, and I don't know if Benz ever used a mechanical governor on the 240s.

Those people that you are passing are probably walking on the side of the road.

Yes, and the left and right lane are turning lanes only.

Lightbulb Check Owner's Manual

Don't know if this is any help but I have a '76 300D and it has the altitude compensator, and the way to adjust it is described right in the owner's manual. And the Manual actually covers both models- the 300D and the 240D.
