Off-Road Diesel Fuel
I realize that off-road fuel is NOT legal to run on the road, but is there any differance, other than the added red dye? I saw off road fuel for 90 cents per gallon!!!! DOT will not likely stop and check the fuel in a car.

Shouldn't be a difference but I doubt they'll sell it to you if you're putting it in your car.

It's the same stuff. Only the red dye is added to show that it is untaxed. The chances of them checking a passenger car are just about nil.
Where are you getting it for $.90? Fuel oil is quite a bit more than that now in the Northeast. |

When I worked in Oregon we checked more diesel car/trucks than we did Class 8 trucks (semi's).

Seems I recall the news story that was pasted here last year about the diesel pickup truck that was wrecked and spilled a load of red dyed diesel fuel on a California Hwy. Seems the state took a dim view of the fugality of the driver and handed him a whopping fine.

Understanding the ethical issue involved, I always wondered why a person couldn't use the dye stuff and add their 10% used, filtered motor oil. That way the fuel is blacker than coal. I would guess however that they could still test it.....
Still looking for that frugal way to burn alternative fuel.....sigh..... Don
