98 E300 glowplug change

This winter, when im home for winter break, i was thinking of changing the glowplugs, and since ill have the intake manifold out of the way, im looking for any advice in other parts that need to be checked and or replaced.

Wink Winter Break

I worked 40 years to be able to afford to drive a Mercedes and you get to drive one to collage!! Maybe if I would have graduated from collage i could have afforded one sooner, but i'am happy for you. Do a search, their is a lot of info on this. I had mine changed at 80+ miles when one went bad.

W140 S600,

The search function will find some posts on the subject. For the most part the removal of the intake manifold is the most time consuming step, however, there are a number of posts on the subject of these glow plugs being broken off in the head. When this happens the fix is to remove the head and drill the remnant out without damaging the head. The problem lies in the new glow plug configuration and how they fail. When the glow plug fails it gets stuck in the head, and twisting too hard on the hex on the outside leads to having the outside of the plug snap off in the wrench.

In the end, it is probably not a good idea to change plugs if they are working ok. Jim

This is one of the extremely rare times I disagree with Jim. I think that the longer the plugs stay in place, the more likely they are to get stuck.

Just be careful removing them, and don't twist too hard if it feels like one is stuck. Lightman posted a great thread with lots of pictures detailing the process.

While you're in there, I would suggest replacing all the plastic fuel lines. They are prone to leakage and aren't terribly expensive.

Wink collage

I said i did not graduate. By the way "collage" by definition is an art form in which bits of objects are pasted on a surface so now you learned something.
