Tool for removing collar that
holds th' prechamber in th' head. Anyone know if th' Mercedes tool is captured by th' collar so as to hold th' tool down on th' collar? I'm afraid if th' tool slips and buggers up th' slots in th' collar it'll be a bear to get out. My 123 240D leaks around th' outside of th' collar.

Yes, that tool screws into the collar and then the tangs engage and it is held in.... but some of the aftermarket tools work that way also... see pictures in the Performance Products catalog....

For grins and giggles I looked at the performance products catalog and it said the prechamber lock ring tool they sell doesn't fit the 87 SDL.

Well, thankfully he is asking about a 240....
I guess I should put in my signature "whatever I say is only about 123 MB's).... often times I don't think to look at the car model.... |
We got it out by welding a piece
of keystock on th' open end of a sparkplug socket and using an air impact wrench. Came out eaiser that I thought it would. Must have been th' leaking fuel that helped - OR - some had it out not too long ago,
We used th' bicycle crank tool tied with a thru bolt(carriage style) to a slide hammer to try to yank th' prechamber out. Banged my knuckles pretty good on th' slide weight. No luck! If they just yank out(glow plug is out) then mine is pretty well stuck in there. Fuel was bubbling at th' little indentation between th' collar & th' head. Did not find th' washer or heat shield between th' injector & prechamber. One half of th' seat on th' injector & where it seats on th' prechamber was sooted & one half was clean. Looks like half a washer still there on th' prechamber. gonna clean things up, put in a new heat shield, reinstall everything & see if it's good or not.... Any thoughts ? Jim |
