Yokohama Avid Touring--DOG DOO
Had trouble with these tires. 15,000 miles and one started losing air fast yesterday. It had 12 to 15 cracks (each 1 1/4 inch long) around the edge where the tread lugs meet the sidewall. Closer inspection revealed hundreds of cracks of various sizes at the base of the tread lugs all over the tires.
These tires were just about to come apart. Glad I caught it in the driveway and not on the freeway. I immediately replaced them with Michellin "Harmony" 215 70/14. $83 at Nat'l tire and Battery, $87 at Tire Rack. Very happy so far--car drives better too. Twice in the life of this car (326,000) I have 'cheaped out' on tires. Never again. If you have these Avid Touring's I suggest you monitor them closely. Regards |

Have you tried contacting Yokohama customer serivice? Yokohama is among the most reputed companies in Japan and their tires are far better than Bridgestone, as a matter of fact, Yokohama Geolander and OEM on Land Cruiser and Pajero in middle east and Australia.
I have raced with the Yokohama A008 and have trusted my life on them, had bad luck with Michelins though, the MXV tread came off the tire at around 18000km on my Golf GTi 16V. |

I have Yokohama Avid V4S's on my SDL and they are one of the best tires I have ever had. They have tons of traction and run very quite. For a performance tire the wear well to. It sounds like your tires were left out in the sun for a long time. Yokohama makes a good product, Mich sells their name well but their are a lot of better tires out their.
My moms car has a set of expensive Michellin's on it, their ok but don't really do anything better then the Yokohama's. Except cost a lot more.
