Cost of 603 cylinder head
Can someone give me a rough idea of how much a replacement cylinder head costs for a 603 engine? The parts sites I have looked at all say it is unavailable.

I am not sure of new price, but I paid 975 shipped from MD to OK for a 16 head with cam and lifters.

When I had the top end done in my 87 300SDL, a complete NEW head and valves ran around $2400 shipped from Metric Motors.

I was looking to replace my #14 head when I had the top end work done last winter, but it checked flat with no cracks so I am still using it. At that time the best price I found for a new head (#22 or similar) was $1400 something, bare.
One point worth noting is that Metric motors has their heads milled to accept the original injectors, there are reports of a small lip left unmachined in them that prevents them from seating properly. You should be aware of that in case you wind up buying a new head and get into trouoble after its already been installed on the engine!
