Amazing 99 E300TD prices

I'm considering selling our 99 E300 turbodiesel and in researching the asking prices for a similar car, I was surprised to see asking prices still in the 30k+ range. Most of the cars have prices above 25k. Of course the highest prices are at dealers and come with some warranty, but a low mileage, two owner clean car ought to be comparable. The question is do I stick a high price on it and hope for the best, or guess at what is a "reasonable" over-book value.

I just sold our 87 300tdt and had nine calls after it sold, so I guessed low on that one, I suppose. One wonders what the closing prices are for these cars given the high asking prices.

Our car is silver with charcoal leather, heated seats, BOSE radio w/CD changer, 57k, new tires, and of course all service records. Based on a recent ebay auction that went to 25k on a car apparently needing body work (I don't know if it sold), this car should go for somewhat more. I just did a fuel mileage test and it got 29.5 in mixed driving with a/c on all the time in the Dallas area.

I followed quite a number of 99 E300's on eBay, and they would typically sell for mid 20's unless the mileage was really high. Very few of them turn up locally and they usually have higher mileages, but mid 20's still seems to be the norm. A dealer had one with 124K on it that I think eventually went for around $19K, it had been on his lot for many weeks before it finally sold.

In the end I decided to get an '85 300SD

I would definately wait untill next year to sell, or at least until the diesel prices start to fall again. With 57k on it and all service records, you will definately be able to get mid 20s for it...

My next car will most likely be a high mileage 98 or 99.. something with about 150k on it.. should be able to snag one for $13-16k.

Probably more like $16k-$19k turbodiesel, they are still holding their value. But since the CDI has come on the market you are starting to see their prices come down. A lot of owners are moving into a CDI.

I just got back from Europe and it seemed like everything was expensive there due to the current exchange rates.

TurboDiesel knows his prices.... I'me actually quite surprised how the W210 diesel's overall are holding their value. I thought that they would drop big time with the release of the W211 CDI.

I personally don't see how they could still be asking 30's or even mid 20's. Most for sale don't even have leather, and are bare bones E300's. These cars are now at a minimum 5 years old.

Look at it this way, you will have no reason to sell your Ford after it hits the magic 100k mile mark. Just drive it into the gound and get your money's worth out of it.
