Driver's Door Lock Dies

The tumbler on my wagon's driver's door lock seems to have broken. The key still works on the passenger side door, and the hatch.

It acts as if I'm using the wrong key. It goes in, but won't turn.

Any ideas?

thanks

I have the same problem, and I just had my tumbler apart!
All was working good until like...3 days ago? I dunno what it is trying to do...I am getting rather tired of taking the door apart just to fix some trivial problem.
Anyone have ideas?

Until you can get the correct cylinder from the Stealership, swap the door handles between the doors.
This worked well on my '84 W123 300D, allowing me to use the car until I was able to obtain the right lock.
Then I lubricated both cylinders with powdered graphite.
Now they work well.

Thanks

Remove the plug from the edge of the door (near the end of the drivers door handle) and remove the hex bolt.
You will need your keys to get the lock disengaged from the stuff in the door...turn it 1/4 turn.

There is also a screw inside the door (phillips) on the other end of the lock but I believe I read on the forum that you can remove the door handle without having to access this screw...to get to that screw you have to remove the door panel

I have always removed the door panel.

After that, you have the handle and the tumbler...remove the roll pin and set screw (straight) from the handle and adjust thehex bolt adjustment on the handle out far enough to sneak the tumbler by the mechanism.

Its a sort of learn as you go sort of deal...make sure if you touch that adjustment on the door handle that you set it back properly...

Thanks Brandon314159

When you insert the key and turn it 1/4 of a turn does it matter which direction CW or CCW? Also what do you do after you turn it? Pull the cylinder out or handle out?

Where abouts is the srew inside the door for the lock? I already have the door panel off.
Thanks
Dan

Doesn't matter which way...its a key thingy that fits into a slot.
After you turn it and have the screw inside off, the whole handle will come out. You pull it forward/back and it comes out (just make sure you have your key turned).

The screw inside is located at the other end of the handle (forward end of the car).
Use a flashlight and have the window all the way up. You will see it at a slight angle in there. You may need a long screwdriver. Its holding the handle in.

The whole assembly comes out as one, then you can get your hands on it and figure it out. You will need a roll pin punch.
