Need Trunk Lock Tip

This is for the 240d. I often keep the trunk unlocked since there really isn't anything there to steal. However, I noticed that I sometimes now have to 'unlock' it using the key manually everytime. Is the lock easily removable and is it easy to take apart and fix? Need your expert opinions.

Sounds like the vacumm lock mechanism is leaking or hanging up. (I think my 300D is doing that.) Might just want to spray a little lubricant on the moving parts and have someone operate the locks with the engine running to see if it frees it up. Do you have the CD manual? I had mine apart once a very long time ago but don't remember much. Seems to me you bought a mighty-vac, so you can use it to test the unlock vacumm can.

no, the door and lock vacuums are disconnected courtesy of a golf tee. the problem is mechanical.

i noticed that when i push down on the trunk especially in the area above the lock, the lock works. sounds like an adjustment issue

Reading the manual at first glance it seems trunk lock instructions are more complicated than some engine repairs German engineers must have a trunk lock fetish or something. Or maybe trunks are a german fetish thing. Maybe they tweak out their trunks over there like we tweak out the rest of our cars here. Indy

It sounds like the problem might be with the vacuum actuator. Even though you have the door lock vacuum plugged, if the actuator is still connected to the lock, you can experience the situation that you described. You might try manually positioning the actuator rod from inside the trunk. If that is the problem, secure the rod in the unlocked position.

Seems to me the rod has to be "extended" to be in the unlock position. Believe it works as a transfer bar. The button you push, pushes on the lock rod , which pushes on the lock, or something to that effect. With no vacumm to hold it out, could have just "walked" back to retracted postion.
