Freedom to travel is undoubtedly the greatest contribution the car has given us, but if you want to explore more thoroughly than the next man you need Volkswagen's Touareg. A sophisticated and luxurious four-wheel-drive, its on and off-road credentials are impeccable, making it a car for any conditions, any occasion. With the extensive choice of flexible and refined engines on offer including Volkswagen's phenomenal V10 TDI - the most powerful diesel production car engine in the world - the Touareg powers past its rivals.

Permanent 4Motion four-wheel-drive provides traction whether you're negotiating a streaming wet motorway or traversing a treacherous mountain pass, the Touareg always providing surefooted stability, controllability and security. Wherever your location the Touareg has it covered, calming the chaos of a busy city centre as easily as it tackles the rugged challenges of the wilderness. Opt for satellite navigation and your route is taken care of, all you need to do is pick your destination - wherever it may be - and drive.

Appreciate the journey, and enjoy the freedom of luxury travel. The Touareg's sumptuous and stylish interior is beautifully crafted, comfort for the driver and passengers always a priority. 2Zone Climatronic air conditioning on all models, or optional 4Zone climate control allows you to set a comfortable temperature however hot or cold it is outside, while cruise control allows you to while away motorway miles with ease, with the reassurance of ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution and ESP should you encounter the unexpected.

Any of the engines power the Touareg effortlessly, but the V10 turbodiesel has to be experienced to be believed; with 308bhp and 750 Nm of torque at just 2000 rpm, it's able to reach 62 mph from standstill in just 7.8 seconds. All have the ability to haul up to 3.5 metric tonnes meaning your weekend playthings, be it a boat, race car or anything else can be taken too. Inside you'll hardly notice they're there, the optional Continuous Damping Control air suspension, standard on the V10 TDI, adapting to your load, the road and your speed allowing you to travel anywhere with absolute confidence.

The option to choose electric seats, with 12-way adjustment in the V8 and V10 TDI, mean that comfort is guaranteed, while all the information you could ever need is at your fingertips via the fascia mounted screen. Use it to select your favourite music on the fantastic stereo, or if you want a quiet life why not keep rear seat passengers entertained with the optional DVD multimedia system seamlessly integrated into the Touareg's roof lining. Your passengers have plenty of room to relax, and as they're the most precious cargo it's reassuring that the Touareg has been extensively crash tested and comes with six airbags as standard.

However treacherous the conditions the Touareg's EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) transfers power to the wheel with the most traction, keeping you moving regardless of the surface. Off-road, 45 degree slopes are climbed effortlessly, while water of up to half a metre (580mm on air suspension models) poses no problems to Touareg. As easily as it ascends, the Hill Descent Assist makes getting down similarly uncomplicated, the Touareg taking any incline in its stride.

Whatever the driving conditions Touareg has it covered, a luxury four-wheel-drive that offers no compromises. On road it's impeccable, off it nothing will stop you. The Touareg. A complete car, whatever your destination.

With the Euro rising in value by the day (its only 0.784 dollar today) one will really have to fork over lots of $$$ to buy one of them, Oh so will us people that buy German parts, Oh well. It's inevitable, Inflation that is......
I just checked and http://www.vw.co.uk/new_cars/touareg
tells me the V10 TDI toureg "starting price = $95,942.71 :p

I still want a MB coupe with TDI in it, and a 5-speed of course, like my red logo.

Why are you looking in the UK? The V10 Touareg is listed on VW.COM. Starting price is $59,105 including destination charge.

I think I saw one of those the other day, they look okay. I didn't get a chance to get close enough to see what the engine sounds like though.

I would rather have a Hummer or G55 AMG for the money.

Conversion: about 553 ft/lb

(1 NM = 0.7375622 ft/lb)

Lots of torque there!

I saw one in the highway earlier this week. I had no idea they were coming out with such a monstrous TDI! It should give Porsche's Cayenne a run for it's money.

Hummer H2? No way is the Touareg in the same class - it's way smaller, lighter and much more fuel efficient.

The Hummer H2 is not worthy of the name. I call the H2 a S&)^ box. I was refering to the real Hummer.

To each his own, but I'd still take a 'Mog, an old Jeep, a Scout, or an old Power Wagon (like WWII vintage) before even jokingly considering a Hummer. They're too big for many trails, the suspension's too complicated, and you can get more capability out of any of the vehicles I mentioned than a Hummer for less than the purchase price of a Hummer (except a military-surplus model)...

Just my $.02

QUOTE Rick Miley "Why are you looking in the UK?"
Well, I just clicked on the link in the first post, then I saw a link to UK VW.
It opened up a screen that clearly shows the UK price for V10 TDI as being "from 52,375 UK pounds" = $95,899 USD Thanks to xe.com for currency conversion rates.
That price from the VW-UK website gives these details: http://www.vw.co.uk/assets/pdf/13_Touareg.pdf

What explains the $38,000 difference? Perhaps the US price is less any options and the UK model is full options I don't really care that is an exhorbitant price for a veedub. I couldn't afford the insurance and sales tax for one of those at either price.
I seriously doubt you could drive off the new car lot in a V10 TDI for $59K OTOH, I think the UK prices are awfully high for a car like this. Maybe regional differences are really this great?

I just watched the Duetsch Welle on TV tonight, VW is bleeding money and is planning to layoff workers if they don't take a wage reductions. They want higher wages and union plans to strike Monday. Same old song and dance.

Daimler Chrysler is making money but only off Chrysler sales which are rosy, Mercedes Benz sales are losing money big time.
Oh well, they make up for that to some degree in service and spare parts at the dealerships.

Yeah but the Hummer is just such a nice package. It is a real go anywhere military vehical that you can drive to dinner in! I was looking at a red pickup version last weekend the guy had just replaced his late 90's wagon version with this new one. It was pretty sweet.

Besides I am getting tired of old cars, if I had the money I would prefer a nice new Hummer with a warranty to another 20+ year old project.
I look forward to the day when I can just drop my car off at the dealer and say fix it and give me a loaner so I can get out of here!

That is a sweet engine!
