Diesel Purge

Although it's been posted I'm sure many times, I have just been awed. I performed a diesel purge on my 240D. (267,300 miles), and I must say I am absolutely amazed at the difference. The car ran OK before, but is much smoother now. It pulls better, idles smoother and gets better fuel economy. Also the throttle response on the highway is much improved. After I ran it for a day or so after the diesel purge, I changed the oil and added a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. It seems as if the car has more compression now. The engine got smoother still and feels tighter.

Oh, BTW just for kicks, I upgraded the headlights to the diamond cut, clear lense type using H4 bulbs. They light up the highway better and they look cool too!!

Lubry Moly Diesel Purge

I have bought this item several times over the lifespan of my car, but have poured it into the tank. The instructions I received with it don't tell me clearly what to do, where to pull which fuel line, etc. Is there a site I can look into where it describes the process for a man with two right hands (no thumbs on them) which I can actually understand with two Master's Degrees? I have a can right here and the tubes, who will tell me what to do?

I believe if you do a search on this site, there are instructions...I also saw them in my latest Performance Products catalog.

**************.com has a kit and part of that is a quick explanation of how to do it.

But your best bet is a search right here on Mercedes Shop ! !

I bought the kit from **************.com because of the printed instructions that came with it. Great first purchase - then I will shop based on price after that. (Their prices on Bilsteen Shocks are rather impressive)

They also sent along detailed instructions with some of the other parts that I purchased. BIGGEST HELP was the Front Support Rod Bushings.......

It is very easy man... on a difficulty scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the most difficult) I'd rate it 1. It's that easy. Let me know if you still need instructions with pics.

I just used diesel purge for the first time about three weeks ago. I can't say I noticed any difference in performance, compression or amount of smoke released from the exhaust under throttle. However, the first time I re-fueled after the purge, I picked up 1.03 mpg. Impressive, especially considering that I drove for about 2 hours at 90mph during the period over which the mpg calculation was done.

I purged my auto about a month ago. Pretty simple. I was excited about how it almost instantaneously smoothed out. Purge was coming back into the bottle super dark and gross looking. Ran 2 cans through the sucker and it was still dark when I quit! Perhaps it has never been purged before who knows. However- the other shoe falls, friends. The engine went back to it's usual nailing sounds when I hooked the lines back up. Not much power was recovered. Overall, not too impressed with the diesel purge but I'm glad I did it. I need to rebuild my injectors that's just all there is to it.
But then following ON's advice on another thread I ran a gallon of vegetable oil with a dose of Power Service in a full tank o' diesel. Now THAT impresses me. I now have a smoother running engine all the time. It's not a miracle cure as I still need to rebuild the injectors but a nice quantifiable difference I must say. I don't know if I can use it with every fillup though, since biodiesel is said to have detrimental effects on the rubber parts in the fuel system.

Vegtable Oil - Either SVO or WVO will not harm the rubber. Only Biodiesel may cause problems - Big difference between the two.....

My first Diesel Purge is due for this week. Should be a fun process to watch, like yours......

Talking smoothing out stuttering idle

As much as I have heard concerning the benefits of diesel purge...I HAVE for the past 5 YEARS always run CLEAN and REPUTABLE FRESH fuel through my diesels.
NEVER had any trouble with ALGAE etc......However, sometimes a NON-SMOOTH idle.
I always let the fuel tank get down low.......add ONE GALLON OF HIGH TEST GASOLINE and fill the fuel tank 1/2 way with diesel. We NO longer have access to Super Premium Red Diesel here in this over regulated state. I run factory filters and usually add either Redline dfc or Power Service in the white bottle. This ALWAYS works well along with an Italian Tune Up.
Say what you will....
Best wishes always,
spo out

Question Color of Purge From Return Lines

I am still pondering the different results of using Diesel Purge in my two cars. The '87 300TD (603) had clean filters prior to using the Purge. The 300D Turbo (617) had only a clean pre-filter. As the purge returned to the jar from the 603 it looked very similar to what it did when it went out of the jar. Not the case with the 617. That one was as others have recently written, dark/dirty looking. Is the difference likely the clean versus non-clean primary filter or something else?

Delano or Briers or Braverichard how does it work?

Does diesel purge come with good instructions? I had read here that it did not. I just ordered some last night from http://www.olyonline.com/Lubromoly.asp

Does it not get consumed by the engine? Any Help would be greatly appreciated, new owner, and have gotten addicted to getting it fixed up well!

Thanks
Joe

The instructions that it comes with depends on where you purchase it from. Some places give good instructions, others give poor instructions and another set don't even provide you with any instructions at all.

Here's a simple description of how it works: you basically disconnect the fuel line from the fuel tank and put it into a can/bottle containing your diesel purge. Also, you disconnect your fuel return line and plug it into your diesel purge so that any diesel purge taken in by the injection pump but not consumed by the engine goes back to the can/bottle containing your diesel purge. You let the car run for about 20 minutes until all of the purge is used up - so yes, the engine consumes the purge. It is during that consumption that the purge passes through the fuel injectors and since it is highly concentrated, it cleans them off very well as it does so. You have to stop the purge before it is completely used up though, so that your injection pump doesn't start sucking air into the system. It is recommended that you change your oil filters after doing this as the junk from the injectors, if any, would go to the main filter as the cleaning progresses. That's pretty much it. A very simple procedure.

Joe, I got your e-mail. I will send you the stuff tomorrow.

Just noticed someone else offered you some help as I was typing below.
Joe,
I believe the DIY button at the top will lead you to a page illustrating how to use it. Basically, a clear jar with a screw top, 1/4" fuel line about 16" inches long, a couple of small hose clamps and I use a vacuum cap to plug the steel portion of the return line after pulling the neoprene hose off. Find the illustrated DIY because it shows the whole setup and where the lines are. You are going to put the 1/4" fuel line on the input end of the small pre-filter and clamp it. What is important is not to let the hose come off from the bottom of the jar and stop purging before the jar empties. What is left you can pour into your tank. I typically enlist one of my sons to be there to start and shut the vehicle off rather than chance the jar tipping and spilling during the process. As you can tell from the jar evenutally getting nearly empty, the vehicle does consume the purge. I will defer to the more experienced but I believe it is best to perform this at the same time your TWO filters are changed. I nearly forgot, run the engine at various RPM levels as you are using the purge.

If you really cannot find the DIY page, post back and I'll try to locate it.

purging

Thanks alot, I really am learning so much from you guys, and hope oneday I can pass the info on to others.
The only confusion for me now is and pleas excuse my ignorance, (and lack of fiddling with the car much yet) where is the "fuel return line"? I am assuming I start the process at the point in front of the "prefilter" ((the small clear filter)) or are you saing to actually start it at the fuel tank??

Thanks much.

Joe
