Has anyone here used a chrome plater?
Since these diesls seem to last foreveer, we see issues that owners of cars with less longevity never do. I am in the midst of a complete repaint on my 300SD. The chrome grill looks OK, but I am afraid, after the repaint, it will look a bit shabby. I see Fastlane has new ones for about $140. Has anyone had theirs replataed? How did it turn out? What was the cost?

You are much better off to buy a new grill. Chrome platers are few and far between because of environmental protection laws. The few that are left are expensive.

Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN is a careful, well reputed shop whose business is probably 80% done by UPS. They are as expensive as any but they know what they are doing. If you've ever seen how labor intensive and chemically involved the process is you would understand the high cost. It's really unreal how much work it is to get old metal smooth as the chrome that we all are used to.
