Ouch! But is this thing really necessary? Photo

My center muffler, or resonator is rusting through and I fear beyond any hope of repair. The best price I have found so far on a replacement is $202.68. But just how important is the resonator - has anybody by-passed it and with what results?

My forward pipe was also failing but I was able to cut out and replace the hole with $20.00 of parts from the local store.

This will be my first attempt attaching a picture so bear with me if it takes a couple of times.

I just noticed an error message that the file is too big. I will edit it and reduce its size and try again shortly.

It is not needed. Many people do away with them when they go bad. They are supposed to help with resonance noise around 2K RPM. I have not heard anyone say the extra exhaust noise was to objectionable.

I should have pictures added of my handy work after my new digital camera arrives.

Mine looked about the same untill i went over some RR tracks and gave loose.

I really like the tone of the car while driving now.

tons quieter than an open system
