Hey GSXR-

Are you planning to reseal your trans on your own? Phil sells a kit for $75 but I'm not sure if it's something I can tackle. If not, I wonder if I could take the transmission and kit and have somone help me reseal it.... I know my leaks are probably getting a little worse because it looks wet on the underside and looks to be fresh ATF.

Hatterasguy-

What is your rate of fluid leak? Do you have to add some new stuff at each oil change?

GSXR,

Why are the Adsitco transmissions so bad? Are they poorly rebuilt or something?

I was quoted 3.5 hours labor for a re-seal at the dealer (at $80/hr), plus a seal kit. The complete seal kit is ~$150 retail at the dealer, or $75 for aftermarket.
Is this delivering the transmission to them out of the car?

Hi Marc,

1) I think most of the seals are a DIY project, but some are not. The rear output yoke requires a big socket, and I'm not sure how we'd brace it to loosen it, etc. The seal kit will include some extra items you don't need but it's easier than attempting to buy all the individual seals.

2) It's not Adsitco's transmissions, it's the company itself and their policies and business practices. I think there was a thread or two about them on this forum (try searching). They offer nothing that we can't buy elsewhere, from more reputable companies, at the same (or lower!) prices.

3) Yes, they quoted 3.0-3.5 hours if I deliver the transmission to them. Otherwise it would be an extra 5 hours or so for the R&R, at $80/hr (labor rate will vary greatly depending on your location).

Marcb it is a pretty healthy fluid leak, I leave probably a 6in spot in the driveway overnight. I will try to find a local shop to rebuild my trans, a straight 4spd without overdrive should be simple to do. But mine doesn't really slip and I would like to see how long it could last, so I will just seal it up and put it back in. I have to replace it sooner or later but I would like to see how close to 300k I can get it.
