what to buy?
I really miss driving a diesel. The wife convinced me to sell my 300d several years ago. I have started looking again and am not sure which is the best way to go. The 300tdt seems practical but very hard to find. The 300sd looks like fun, but without the utility of the wagon. The 190d would be ok if I could find one with a manual transmission. The newer 300tds look nice, but they are more exensive. I have also considered buying a VW diesel but the new ones seem overly complicated and the old ones are hard to find without too many miles.
Which one of these do you think is best? I plan on spending under $3,000. |

If you take your time, you can find good TDs, I just bought a mechanically perfect, cosmetically OK '82 300TD from Texas for 2400$. Of course, I've been shopping for months and finally got lucky. But they ARE out there. Nice 190s seem even harder to find thatn 300TDs, but are nice cars.
Whatever you find, good luck! We are glad you are getting back in the fold.
