CDI Problems, enough was enough!

The dealer is buying my car back so I can order another one. I want to do the European delivery program this time. It will take a few months to get it so in the mean time I want to find a 90-91 350 SDL that I can drive for a while. I wish to get one with the upgraded Non Rod Bending engine if there is such a thing. Can anyone guide me to a nice 350 SDL?

You know we want to know what went wrong with the CDI. Can you explain what problems you had?

After having just esperienced a lemon MB diesel, why on earth would you be searching for a 350SDL? Buy an old 300D (123 car).

I had a 300d once and an sd also had an 86 sdl and loved it. I like the style of the 126. The CDI had all sorts of power loss problems under accelleration and then the airbag system had a mind of its own. After over 7 weeks in the shop they were unable to repair the power loss, after changing all sorts of parts and then unable to repair the airbag system, I filed lemon papers and was offered a refund. I will turn it in on Monday and order another one.

1994 S350 Turbodiesel

I am a fairly new owner of this car. Have put more than 10,000 miles on it now.

Does this model fit into the rod bending engine cars you described? Total miles on it now are 127,000

Yeah I think its the same rod bending engine but I am not exactly sure but I think so. Go do a search and I think you can get the info you are looking for somewhere here.

Yes have been lurking on this forum for more than 3 months and can't find much on my model.

Glad to hear your problems are going to be resolved. To bad you had to put up with so much hassle from the dealer.

The thing that really erked me was I left the car there at the shop for 8 days to fix the airbag and when I picked it up the SRS Airbag light was still on. I was pissed. So then they told me on the phone that they tried recoding it and didnt change the module and for me to bring it back in and they will change out the module this time. Then I got another story from the supervisor that they did change out the module. What ever they did they kept the car for 8 days and nothing was fixed. I have just gotten really tired of taking the car in to the shop every monday. Got to be a ritual.. Plan on it every Monday Worst than getting your hair died every Friday.

Many of us r familiar with the rod bending legacy of the 350's.

There was a thread, a little while back, about how some of the folks on this forum used a mod on the EGR system and claimed it worked fine. T refresh ur memory, they used a small air filter to channel air into the EGR valve and blocked off the exhaust end.

It has been said that the rod bending is caused by clumps of carbon from the EGR. With clean air, that should eliminate that problem.

Has anyone tried this mod on the 350 ?

I am biased, but the 126 is beautiful==long. powerful and solid. I love mine.

There couldn't have been that many bad ones as only 875 were imported into
the US in 1991!!

Keep looking. Instead of a mb, buy the vw v10 diesel. later model mbs are
dogs...

If the rods are still OK at 127,000 miles, don't worry about it, they are probably fine. The rod bending was totally random, and almost always happened at fairly low mileage (at least for a Benz, anyway). I've see a couple with 250,000 plus on them, one a W126 and one a W140, still going strong.

IMHO, there is a big difference between a Mercedes Benz vs a Daimler Chrysler...
