Bought a 78 300d on e-bay

Guys,
It is as clean as it looks in the pics. Vacuum locks even work right including trunk and gas door. Interior is perfect including drivers seat. There is a knob to the left of the steering wheel that is supposed to be some kind of aid in starting. What does it do/ how does it work?
Should be a nice driver for the wife.

For winter starts you press down on the throttle pedal about half way then turn the screw to the right and let up on the pedal and start engine. This keeps the rpm's up until car warms up and if you use it remember it will slow your stops. Don't forget to turn the scew back to the left after engine warms up in normal driving. This can also be used for idling car while unattended to help warm it up.

Wodnek,

Now you need a set of "Bundt Cake" wheels to replace the ugly wheel covers.

They are also available on eBay.

P.E.H. What did you use to to find "Bundt Cake" wheels. I tried just those words on several ocassions and never found anything. Maybe poor timing on my part?

At various times, I've seen them described by eBay sellers as "alloy wheels" or "factory alloys" or "OEM" or "original alloy wheels".

Maybe try searching some of those terms...

Mike

P.E.H.

I actually like the color matched caps, I think I'll leave em. My 85 has the alloys, I can clean them every day and the next day the brake dust is back. Turns out i had a siezed caliper. In any case my alloys look like he!! and need to be redone. I think I will have them bead blasted, painted silver and cleared.

Nice car! Probably owned by some nice grandma or something.

I love it when good things happen on ebay.. All you hear are horror stories, but sometimes good stuff is sold by honest folks on ebay. Problem is, it can be hard to tell which is which.

Glad things are working out though, enjoy!

peace,
sam

Oldnavy,

A "Mercedes wheels wheel" eBay search should get you lots of hits on "Bundt Cake" or Alloy wheels.

I got a nice set on eBay for $35 each. I wanted 6 1/2 inch wide wheels when I went to 70 series tires.

I went with 205/70/14 and stayed close to original size, mine came new with 195/70/14 original. And 5.5's will take a 215/70 so I decided to save the dollars for something else. However I'm thinking of snowtire rims in the future.

My speedometer is 3 mph slow, but that's no big deal with a 240D.
