By "small crappy little cars" I assume you would be talking about the base MB models? Like the C class, the 190E, the 240D, the 220D ect? These are among the most reliable and best built MB's going. The newer C230k's are great bullit proof littler cars. The new C240's are very nice to. MB makes a lot of small normal cars all over the world, why not in the US?

Those smelly old cars should be de-registerd forthwith. (Opps, no I stired something up) And as far as this high km's competition is concerned I'm sure you will find an old Trabant smoking around Leipzig with Billions of Km's on the clock, it means nothing. What we are talking about here are issues we want M-B to take note of so we can enjoy their beautiful elegant cars for a very long time to come yet.

A Taxi does not qualify as "non-commercial service". Also, I believe the Volvo is on the original engine (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and the Mercedes Taxi had a few engine transplants through the years.

That's impossible to be the original engine. Unless the engine was gutted and refurbished several times along the way.

I've read elsewhere that the Volvo engine had been rebuilt more than once actually. I'll try and locate that source.
