Reverse Lights aren't working
The reverse lights on my SD have never worked since the day we got the car, I tested the bulbs/sockets themselves and they work fine, also the car will start fine in park/neutral so would it still be the neutral safety switch? I would like to get them working again, as its kindof a good thing for people to know when you're in reverse
 Where should I start first in getting this solved? Also, when moving the shifter around between park/reverse/neutral they never so much as flicker (had someone watch them while I did that).

There is another thread going on this same subject, maybe it is contagious??? There is a switch that turns on the back-up lights. Have you ever seen a car with them on while driving around? It can be wired backwards. Before checking the switch I would spin or clean my fuse. Aluminum fuses corrode and lose conductivity. Good luck

It is the neutral safety switch. Mounts on the transmission itself. Costs $51.00 at Fastane. May just have a loose connection.
To access it youmay find that unboling the trans mount and lowering the rear of the tranny makes it much easier to get to. The switch controls the reverse lights and neutral lockout.

Wouldn't something else not be working also if it was a fuse? Or is there a fuse all by itself that powers the reverse lamps....? I don't have the capability to drop the transmission (no way) so I can't really do anything if thats the issue....Maybe I'll wire them to a switch next to my seat so I can turn them on at will
If I can't fix it the other way I think thats what I'll do, its easy enough.

Unbolting the rear tranny mount and lowering the trans is not that hard to do. What is required would be that you have the car high enough to get underneath. Other than that four bolts and lower it. Will hang there on the driveline with just enough room, you hope to get to the switch assembly. Might want to get in there and see if the connection is still intact. Sometimes the MB plug ins get loose or dirty.

Back-up Lights
I had the same problem on my 300SDL. I loosened the neutral safety switch assembly (two bolts) and rotated it slightly while the gear level was in reverse. Had a helper watch the lights. When the lights came on, I tightened the bolts and now it works great. I didn't have to lower the tranny but the SDL may have more room than a SD. Good luck.

Be carefull working a car thats in gear, make sure all saftey precautions are in place, a minimum of wheel chocks.
