This is worth repeating. If you experiment with alternate fuels, filter them well. Do not skimp on the filtering.
Glad it was something so simple. I didn't re-read this thread entirely but there is something here that doesn't completely add-up. If your whole problem was a clogged filter, it should hit on the starting fluid immediately. I would check that battery and starter very closely if you have any further problems. |

That's what I was thinking as well. I bought a new battery but didn't install it because the car has been firing right up the past two days, without any starting fluid assistance. Even with jumper cables and the old filters and glow plugs and starting fluid I'd have to crank FOREVER, the battery has me worried so I do have my new one in the garage. My starter has been on the frits a little, every now and then I'll crank on it and nothing will happen or it sounds like it's not engaging. I've changed a starter on a 240d before and I would like to avoid doing it again. I'm still trying to figure out why it'd run ok before it got warmed up.
Yes, filtering odd fuels = good idea. I think since the tank in there is still a little dirty I might just grab another set of filters just in case. I'm also still thinking that the valves might need to be adjusted, but that's cause I want this car to run GREAT. I'm so happy, I want to go drive it everywhere. Also, I'm not so sure my block heater is working. Is there anyway I can tell right away besides just waiting and seeing if it is warm. My car has been sitting since 8 in the morning and I won't get back to it before 1am, it's plugged in, so if it's warm I'll assume it's working, thanks. Now that I have this done I'm going to attack little issues like my cigarette lighter not working. -Nate p.s. if there are typo's or stupid things I've said in this last post, please forgive me, I've been typing A LOT today.

If you have an amp guage you could measure the current draw of the block heater.
After oil changes I think of valve adjustment as the next most common of the critical maintenance. If you think of it, it is probably time to do it. |
