I'm not in the mkt and I think $5k sound about right for what you have described and based on what I have seen go on ebay. The big question is how does the interior look? Does the rear 1/4 look like the attached pic? If you have picture size reducing software you should be able to scale those pics down a couple notches and post them.

since you all are longing for a nice 300SD here is a pic of mine,
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/300sd841.htm 84 300SD 151K, runs, looks, acts like new. I have replaced all rubber and front end, I am second owner and is a daily driver. It will go on sale when I can find an 88-89 420SEL, in as good as or better (if possible) condition. Oh back to the original question I would say 5K good luck |

I have the identical vehicle. When I purchased it, it had the identical mileage that yours currently has. I purchased mine for $4k. If your SD is in immaculate condition it could bring $5k to $6K. The determining factor in the selling price (on e-bay of course) will be the number and quality of the photographs.
Use the six photos that e-bay gives you: The vehicle will go for around $4K. Use 25 full size photos, with detailed close up shots that confirm the condition: The vehicle will go for $5K and may fetch as much as $6K, but, it would have to be pristine with full maintenance records. |

Here are some pictures. 300SDLTOM asked about leaks and other things. The only one is a slight oil leak at the oil filter housing to block gasket (maybe a palm size spot on the driveway after driving). My father had all regular maintenance done at the dealership as well as anything he noticed no matter how slight. I have never looked through the records but I will try to soon. I know that some of the suspension and steering components still have parts stickers on them. The driver seat was replaced at some point in the late 90's as well as the transmission. The interior is excellent. The dash is prefect and so are the seats. All the power windows, sunroof and locks work. As I said before the only item on the car not in operation is the alarm (I am currently fixing the monovalve to correct a lack of heating issue). The alarm system components are functional but the control unit went bad(I removed it but still have it). The car has the original spare(never used) and the original first aid kit in the back dash. The exterior is very good (a few minor dings and chips). I have the original touch up paint and clear coat bottles that came with the car. Anything that came original with the car I have(even the tags to operate the radio, jack the car, jump start). Absolutely NO rust. The engine runs great and I have no idea at this point as far as any major work on it (I don't think it has ever needed it due to my father's obsessive compulsive personality, he took the car in for repairs for every little issue, they knew him by name at the dealership(STAR Motors in Houston)). I appreciate all the input and it sounds like between $4000(low end) and possibly as much as $6000, so asking $5000 might be in line! I also have the "Autocheck Report" (similiar to carfax). If anyone is seriously interested e-mail me and I can provide my phone#. THANKS EVERYONE!!
P.S.- I have a post on the TECH forum about the leak. Meltedpanda replied once but that is all the input I've gotten. Any more suggestions? Last edited by Lorenzo7; 11-12-2004 at 03:27 PM. |

Unfortunately, the pictures are not of sufficient quality, in this forum, for us to fine tune the value for the vehicle.
These pictures would be the typical set of six that e-bay offers and are not sufficient for clearly indicating the condition. Since you are planning on advertising it locally, I believe that $5K is a perfectly reasonable asking price. However, note that it may take a bit of time, and advertising cost, to find the buyer for this vehicle. There are a slew of us here who admire such a vehicle, but, we are few and far between when it comes to the general population. |

I agree with Brian Carlton regarding the pictures. A good place to post many full-size pics is in a Yahoo photo album; it's probably worth setting up a throwaway Yahoo email account anyway to handle the sales transaction. Then you can provide a link to your Yahoo photo album in any ads or postings that reference your vehicle. Or you can have a friend host the full-size images for you, if you know anyone who has a personal website.

Lorenzo--
There was an 84 SD for sale here locally, sounding very similar to yours, though it had fewer miles (about 140K iirc). Owner advertised it for $5500 & got no takers; then at $4800 and got no takers; and finally at $4400. I'm guessing he didn't get the full $4400, but I don't know for sure. I looked at it and was very tempted, but die Frau has forbidden me from buying another MB until I sell one. |

Perhaps.
I sold my last 84 300SD with 140xxx miles this spring for $8800 and I could have sold 15 , if I had them at the time.
If you have an original paint/orig interior/perfect ownership history/new tires/brakes,etc/no $$ needed to be spent anywhere car, I'd say it brings north of $7k , perhaps up to $8500 or $9000. |

Has anyone besides me had trouble posting images and doing things increasing font size?

Get Herb to buy It!
What a great marriage, Lorenzo get Herb to buy your car for 6,000. then he can find a buyer for "north of 7K", and all is well. One owner, all books and records, great shape, with the right pics on e-bay here it goes, once twice sold to the guy from tawnda for only $9,000.00
