Injector cleaners

I noticed at the truck stop they have fuel system cleaners for diesel trucks by the gallon. Has anyone tried any? I looked at the diesel purge thread and it seems to me that if you just put the cleaner in your tank, the return line would just put the contaminates back in your fuel tank. Should I not do this, or try it with a few pre-fuel filters handy?

Most of them are concentrated detergents that loosen up the varnish in the IP and injector bodies and help remove carbon from the injector tips.

Some work better than others, none will do more than remove varnish and dirt.

I've never heard of filter clogging problems from using them unless they loosen up a whole lot of "algae" in the tank.

Diesel Purge is a different animal, you run that directly into the IP in much more concentrated form. Otherwise the effect is the same.

Thumbs up Power Service

I run Power Service Diesel Kleen (silver bottle) straight through mine. Same directions as Diesel Purge. Wally World sells this for about $6.00.

I tried the stuff from the truck stop. I didn't put in the full consentration cause it says it's an octain boosterr too. I feel the results but I don't want to burn it up just clean the fuel system. I just put in about 3 or 4oz, you know a splash or two. But I do feel a difference.

Do you know if this stuff is the equivalent of BG's gas additive for cleaning gasoline engines? My understanding is that there are detergent-type fuel systems cleaners and then there are solvent-type cleaners. I believe the BG products cleaner is the solvent-type and seems to be much more effective.
