Heat Shield Question
 

I'm going to try some Colorado Biodiesel Premium Gold Injectors for my 617.952. It nails pretty good-like so I do believe I'll try them and keep my set as a spare after having them rebuilt and tested. This is my only car by the way, and my fetish object/enthusiast toy/current hobby so I don't mind spending a few bucks here and there. Already did a purge, returned to it's nailin' ways after I hooked the fuel lines back up.
My question is which size heat shield? Phil offers 7.5mm and 10mm. I don't know which ones to use! I have a federal '85 300D turbo sedan. Also, what are the torque values for the injector installation?

I have been told very few have the 7.5 mm and that there is no way to tell till you pull the first injector. :eek: I would order the 10mm and keep fingers crossed. :eek: :eek:

I asked the same question.... Use the 10 mm. That's what was in her to begin with.

This subject comes up now and then. I do not recall exactly which heat shield is which, but on a 240D they originally came with small ones that kind of looked like a top hat with the very top cut out. The rim of the top hat is smaller than a penny in diameter. The newer ones are about the size of a quarter and have some features machined into them, but they are essentially flat. On a 240D these replace the small top hat units across the board. I believe these only come in one diameter, but I could be wrong. Do a search. Hope this helps, Jim

The 10mm are the old ones, the 7.5 are the newer style.

The design was changed to shield more of the surface area of the nozzle from combustion.

Go with the 7.5, it'll save your nozzles.

I second the small ones. They are cheap, if you aren't sure, buy both.
