Another oil question :(

I used the serach function, but with all the other oil changing questions, I couldn't find what I was looking for.... My question is oil chang frequency. I, fortunately, only have to drive a few miles each day so I dont reall rack the miles. It take about 6 months to reach the 3k point. So, should I change at 3k, or 3 months?

If you are useing a good diesel synthetic oil such as Mobil Delvac 1 you will be fine at 6000 and 12 months, but if you like to tinker and are using the none synthetic oil do it every 3 months if you like. Even with non synthetic oil, 6 months and 3000 miles will also be fine. Just pick which ever fits your needs.

You are barely driving enough to dry condensation in the oil.....thats severe usage by definition....try once a month to drive it for an hour on the highway to help prevent condensation from remaining too long.

Every 3 months or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. BHD is right in that short stop and go trips are harder on the oil and more like Severe Use than good highway drives.

Never drive it unless you drive it long enough to get up to full engine operating temp, even if that means you must drive the long way around or leave the engine running while you do something. Otherwise, you will get water accumulating in the crankcase, and that will ruin the engine. Not pretty.

If you do ONY short distance driving (5 miles or less), change the oil every three months, whatever you use, to keep the water content down.

A weekly trip of 20-50 miles will do wonders for keeping the car running well and the oil free on condesation.

I sure am glad others here keep me on my toes when I post, sometimes I forget things. I mean I know about moisture build up in crankcase, and we do a lot of short runs in the 240 an the Jetta. But they are taken on regular road trips to prevent problems with moisture and I guess I just figured in the back of my pea brain that everyone knows to do this beside me.
