Good article but kinda preaching to the choir on this board..... Actually I wish people would just shut up about how great these cars are. The last thing we need is the rest of the good ones being snapped up or worse being considered "collector" cars and driving the prices up. SHHHH! RT

I agree, that article could have that effect, what there needs to be is a "Keep it secret, keep it safe!" type regard for them. :D :D

The Barry Bonds of high performance vehicles?? Lmao! Well, if you think of longevity and reliability when you say "performance" I guess...

That is a flat-out lie! These are horrible cars, needing constant attention and maintenance. They cost tens of thousands of $'s a year just to be worked on to keep them barely moving down the road. There's a reason why Mercedes stopped making them. They were embarrased at how unreliable, expensive and dangerous they were.

People who own these cars should not trust their transportation needs to such a slow-moving, traffic hazard jalopy. I STRONGLY encourage those who are stuck with one of these losers to find a sucker to take it off their hands ASAP and count themselves lucky to do so.

BTW, I specialize in helping people out of bad car decisions.

Those who are smart enough to dump one of these lemons as fast as they can before it costs them the shirt off their back can call or email me for a free tow-away of their white elephant anywhere in the country, anytime.

Consider it my donation to the betterment of the roads and society in general. The least I can do for fellow forum members stuck with with one of these pathetic excuses for transportation.

Had a '67 Karman Ghia. Would probably own another if I could find one in decent shape. All the weight at the back was annoying though.

I’ve got it worked out just the way I like it. Twenty miles or less – The Bug is too much fun, twenty to five hundred the 240D is great, but for real travel or camping the Westy Bus always gets the nod and since its just been replaced as the part time truck it’ll be cleaned up and re-restored. Thank God I found 21st Century auto insurance.

Very well put...I want to get my bug restoration (V2) done so I can use it for short trips instead of hammering away on the diesel.
Sounds like you are running a mass of mileage machines :D

My thoughts exactly. And when your yard gets full of these junkers, just let me know. I'm always glad to help a friend in need.

You did fail to mention the horrible fuel mileage. Worse than a 454 chevy one ton dually. And diesel is way more expensive than gas.

Cheers,

Bill
