MB Manual on hard copy

Would someone please give me an idea of how much a 123 hard copy manual would be if I were to buy one on ebay or some other online source. I'm negotiating with a guy on a parts car, and he told me today that he has the shop manual on hard copy. Said it was a couple of inches thick. He also has a timing chain that was never installed, which seems to be just over $100 bucks new.
Thanks,
Jimmy

I got an engine manual for $15 and a body manual for $35. This may be a gloat, I have seen them for much more.

If you are talking the original MB hardcopy manual, it consists of about 6 volumes. Have heard that they can run from $40 to $60 per volume. They do appear on e-Bay and sometimes come with your 20+ yr ol car. Good luck on your purchase.

123 shop manual

there is a shop manual on ebay now for $50. There are many others too. You specified hard copy-- but if you can use the cd version there are some manufacturers manual collections for $17.

Coming Saturday ?

I pretty much have them all.... and the last two posts are closest to what I paid each...
I really love having paper manuals....

Looks good so far

Bounced it off my concubinal apparatis and permission seemed to be conditionally granted (grin). As long as I don't get the death sickness again! I'll email you tomorrow with specifics.

The engine manual you need is the 616/NA617...
not the 617.952 turbo engine manual....
There are also some good threads about manuals....I posted a picture of my collection once....

Stay away from the CD manuals, some details are missing and the illustrations are terrible. Only if you are interested in doing the most minor of procedures would the CD manual be OK and even then don't spend more than $10 for one. If you are serious about working on your MB then the hard copies are the way to go. I have all of the manuals for my W123 including two engine manuals, one for my diesel and one for my Euro gasser. It was a investment well worth the expense.

DJ, Would you list the manuals for your 123 which you own hard copies of please ?

Which Ones Missing?

So far I have found and bought the following for my 123:

Body/Chassis Service Manual Vol 1 and 2
Air Conditioner and Automatic Climate Control Manual
Turbo Diesel Engine 617.95 Manual
Engine Manual 615, 616, 617.91

All M/B hard copies, which one am I missing?

Andy

missing manual?

Possibly for the automatic or is it already incorporated in your existing manuals? Thought had seen a separate manual somewhere but may have been in error. Do not own any hard manuals myself yet. The cd is really limited but maybe just me. The hayes type manual limited again but possibly slightly better than nothing. But what do I know? :sun_smile Thought about suggesting my wife give me some manuals for christmas but she thinks a hard time is more appropiate as am thinking of buying a couple of 240ds before christmas. (called living on the edge I think, must check it out with my therapist)

No there is a separate manual for the transmission however it is very hard to come by.
You may have to consider a marriage therapist if you get those 240's.

BTW, if you think the ebay prices are high go and check this page: http://www.storesonline.com/site/573683/page/380270
Ebay will look like a bargain compared to them and there's no description indicating the condition.
